Summary:

The mathematics subject leader plays a key role in leading, developing and managing the subject in their school. This course is designed to support teachers new to the role of subject leader to understand and manage their responsibilities, to use the information available to identify areas for subject development and how to support their colleagues in raising achievement in mathematics.

We are pleased to be able to offer a full day’s training session for teachers new to the role of subject leader in mathematics. We will look at the many aspects which make up the role, the key responsibilities involved and how to manage them.

We will examine ways in which the subject leader can monitor learning and teaching in mathematics through data tracking, monitoring planning, teaching and children’s work. We will also be looking at how to best support colleagues move their practice forward. Time will be given to work with participants to develop an action plan specific to the subject in their school.

Participants will:

• explore the use of day-to-day assessment strategies to support teaching and learning in mathematics
• develop an awareness of how to support colleagues professional subject development
• explore ways to monitor children’s learning in mathematics
• improve skills in data analysis and tracking to monitor children’s progress and identify areas for support
• create an action plan for subject development
